How do the government stimulus packages work?
Everyone is aware we are going through unprecedented times, which will likely have a severe effect on household and business finances. In response to both the Federal and State/Territory governments have released stimulus packages to assist.
Do I have to lodge a tax return?
Most people need to lodge a tax return each year. If you have received any income during the financial year, you need to lodge a tax return. However, there are certain exceptions based on age, income and expenses. Your best option is speak with one of our accountants.
Can you do multiple years?
Yes, we are able to lodge several years for you to request old information from the ATO.
How do you usually charge for your service?
The cost to prepare a standard individual tax return is $170 when you pay upfront. We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard and direct credit via internet banking. When available we can deduct our fees from your refund – there is an additional $30 fee to arrange this. There are additional charges for tax returns involving rental properties, ABN income, capital gains tax, and other matters outside standard requirements.
I don’t have receipts what can I claim?
Understanding when you need a receipt to claim a tax deduction is important to ensure you don’t pay more tax than necessary. These are deductions based on expenses incurred. For example, if your total claim for work related to expenses is $300 or more, you must have written evidence to prove your claims. As long as you have documentation that includes: the name of the supplier amount of the expense, what the goods or services are, date the expense was incurred, and the following documents are also acceptable as written evidence:
- Bank statements
- Credit card statements
- BPAY reference numbers
- Email receipts
- PAYG payment summary
- Paper or electronic copies of original documents
How long until I get my refund?
On average refunds (when due) take from 10 to 14 business days. During the peak if tax season refunds may not arrive until 21 business or more. On rare occasions a refund may take longer than this, our staff will however en-devour to keep you informed throughout the nature process at the tax office discretion.
What’s the tax-free threshold?
For the 2017 income tax year, the tax-free threshold is $18,200.
Can’t I just lodge my tax return online or at an Australian Taxation Office for free?
Should you choose to, you can lodge a simple tax return online or directly with the ATO. However, they will probably not advise you of what deductions, offsets and credits you might be eligible for.
